Tell us about you and your role.
Jen, Head of Homeware buying at The Hut Group.
I’m Jen, Head of Homeware Buying for The Hut Group. I’ve been buying homeware across Coggles and thehut.com for 6 years now. We’ve grown leaps and bounds and have expanded from a small collection to the wide variety that is available today. I’ve always been passionate about interiors and design, so this job really was the perfect role for me. My day to day role can vary and no day is ever the same, which I love. As an overview, my day usually consists of analysing daily sales and tracking brand performance against our targets. As I buy for 3 websites, each with a different demographic, it can be so tricky! We are lucky as we can be agile and buy in season, reacting to new trends and events as they unfold. My favourite part of the role is working with my lovely suppliers and visiting the trade shows. We usually visit around 4 trade shows a year and it can be a great time to discover new brands and innovative products too.
How did you discover Newgate?
When I bought my first house, I was looking around for the perfect clock, and Newgate was the one! I loved my first Newgate clock, so when I became a homeware buyer it was one my priority brands to get onboard straight away to ensure others could enjoy Newgate the way I did.
Why did you choose to stock the brand?
We chose to stock the brand for multiple reasons. We love brands which have a rich history in the way that Newgate do, as an iconic British brand producing vintage, retro-inspired and classically British designs. The classic design of the clocks makes them timeless and their quality composition means you can take them from home to home. Newgate is a strong player in our collection of homeware brands.
What is your favourite Newgate Product?
My number one is the Italian Wall Clock. I love the roman numerals and the classic black on white, it’s perfect for any home as it is modern with a classic twist.
What interior and fashion trends are you loving at the moment?
When it comes to colour palette, I’m really loving pistachio and moss greens combined with smoky pinks and amber notes. These are all really big colours for SS21! I’m also loving organic and sustainable materials used in homeware, as the world becomes more conscious of their environmental impact, we’re seeing more rough textures and natural surfaces integrated into design. Lastly, an interior trend to note is ‘embraced indulgence’. This is where we’re seeing classic metallics and quilted velvets with splashes of gold for that luxurious look.
What influencers (fashion or interiors) do you follow for inspiration?
I’m inspired by my travels, team and of course…. The amazing accounts across Instagram. From home renovations to dreamy hotel décor – there are so many inspiring accounts that always blow me away. My favourite Instagram accounts are @mad_about_the_house and @abigailahern, these are a little different in what their style is but I love their content.
