Iconic Clocks & Inspired Interiors | The Girl with the Green Sofa

As big fans of the award-winning interior and lifestyle blog ‘The Girl with the Green Sofa’, we were delighted when the owner of the Insta-famous green sofa herself, Nicola Broughton, asked Newgate’s founders to share their passions for clock and watch design.

The story of Newgate’s growth into the iconic British brand it is today, is featured in The Girl with the Green Sofa's ‘Spotlight’ section, where Nicola shares helpful insights from fashion and interior entrepreneurs designed to inspire creative business start-ups who are embarking on similar journeys.

As well as behind-the-scenes articles on some of the design industry’s best-known names, The Girl with the Green Sofa’s main focus is on all things interior, with a spotlight on colourful and dramatic interior design that doesn’t break the bank.

Nicola’s own home is a visually-inspiring mix of inky dark walls, bold maximalist prints and an eclectic collection of modern homeware and classic vintage pieces.

We love how she’s styled our Putney wall clock against this rich jade-green wall in her home. The deep emerald colour makes the Putney’s distinctive red hands pop, while propping the clock on a low-down shelf is a great alternative to hanging a clock on the wall, and makes it easy to transport the timepiece to new locations as the mood takes you.

Our iconic Putney clock was inspired by Jim and Chloe’s travels across Europe in their early twenties. They fell in love with the bold marker-dial clocks hung in European railway stations, and on their return to Britain paid homage to these giant public clocks by creating a scaled-down, contemporary version which has become a firm favourite amongst interior aficionados.

The Putney’s straight-cut metal case is coated in high-shine gloss black, with a clean, minimalist dial that makes it the ideal choice for both modern and minimal interiors, industrial loft spaces or mid-Century and vintage inspired interiors.

Nicola’s much-loved Victorian home has recently been featured by the Sunday Times, a great accolade for the passionate interiors blogger who is a full-time Investment Director by day, and whose journey into the realm of interiors began as an outlet to unleash her creativity and find an antidote to a stress-filled working week.
