Retail Spotlight: Pockets, Shrewsbury Retail Spotlight: Pockets, Shrewsbury
In our latest Retail Spotlight, we caught up with Pockets the independent retailer of menswear located in Shrewsbury.

Please could you tell us a little bit about Pockets as well as your Shrewsbury Store?
Pockets is located in the heart of the historic market town of Shrewsbury - our flagship store can be found in the beautiful Square. The store opened in 1996 as just one small floor, which has extended to 5 floors since then. Each floor is quirkily designed to complement the garments and old building, from contemporary gold stairs to old, exposed brick work. We now have 3 further stores in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Hanley and Nantwich.

What’s been one of the most exciting moments since the store opened?
Every day is exciting at Pockets! It’s just been our 25th Anniversary - Unfortunately, we couldn't celebrate with our customers and friends due to the Pandemic but it’s a great milestone for an independent retailer. Also, the prospect of working alongside new brands each season is great, we've just started stocking Thom Browne which is very exciting for us.

What kind of products do you sell?
With five floors to explore, we offer a wide selection of luxury menswear. Brands include Stone Island, Moncler, Thom Brown, Dries Van Noten, Acne Studios, Brunello Cuccinelli, Canada Goose just to name a few.

How would you describe the style of your store?
At Pockets we are always keeping up to date with new brands, we have recently opened a 'Lifestyle' section in our basement which is where the Newgate clocks are displayed alongside other brands like HAY, Anglepoise and Lakrids By Bulow.

What’s your favourite Newgate product?
Staffs favourite Newgate in our collection is the Luggage Galvanised, and of course Putney! Customers are loving the variety of different clocks that they can have in different areas of the home, not just your traditional wall clocks.

Who or what are you influenced by?
Working in such a quirky store where we do all the merchandising, decorating ourselves we find inspiration in everyday life, from colour combinations to interior design.

What advice would you give to anyone starting a new venture?
With the difficult times we are facing at the moment we as a team are passionate to continue giving the best service possible, we think this is an important factor to any business new or old. Online shopping is great, but you can't beat in store shopping.

Is there anything you are looking forward to in 2022?
We look forward to the future of Pockets and welcoming new customers into our lovely town and store.
