An exclusive unveiling of six new watches at Baselworld 2018!
As Newgate’s chief-designer, Jim’s motivation in designing the Newgate watch range was in part to create an affordable yet design-led alternative to the excessive price tags of the luxury watch market.
So, this March we decided to put our ambitions to the test and set out to compete with the Goliaths of the watch industry at Baselworld in Switzerland, the world’s largest watch and jewellery trade show.
At Newgate we believe that great design doesn’t need to be dripping in Cartier diamonds, so we brought out the big guns at the show in the form of our Drumline, Atom, Torpedo and Blip collections.
Dubbed the Paris Fashion Week of the watch industry, the Baselworld exhibition space occupies over 1.5 million square feet and takes 20,000 workers six weeks to set up, with fashion editors, retailers and watch collectors travelling from all over the globe to view the latest collections.
The event is renowned for its lavish and extravagant wristwatches, with brands competing for the most opulent – and expensive – designs on show. In past years both Hublot and Greubel Forsey have unveiled watches retailing in excess of £1.5 million, alongside luxury brands Rolex, Omega, Gucci and Dior.
Ranging from £129 - £169, our contemporary unisex watch collection is designed in-house in our British design studios before being manufactured in the watch capital of the world, the tech-Nirvana of Shenzhen.
Twenty-eight years of timepiece design has given Jim an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of moving-part product design, and our watches are crafted from the highest quality affordable components. Mineral glass lens, 316L surgical grade stainless-steel, Italian leather straps; each component is carefully sourced and chosen for optimum performance at an affordable price point.
We also exclusively unveiled six new watches at Baselworld. A continuation of our bestselling Drumline collection, which will launch online later this summer.
Despite it being our debut appearance at the show, we had such positive feedback that we were really thrilled we decided to go for it. A big thank you to all of those who came along and visited the stand and supported us!
No doubt there will always be a place for Rolex and those who want to wear a watch as a badge of honour of personal achievement or affluence. But, we know there is also room in the watch market for watches designed for those who simply appreciate good design. We design our watches for you.
